We're Sofa Seagull — a small, local team looking after holiday cottages across East Devon, one guest at a time.
Sofa Seagull began the way most good ideas do — with a gap we couldn't ignore. We'd holidayed along this coastline our whole lives, and we knew it better than any booking platform ever could. So we started managing a handful of local cottages ourselves: answering the phone personally, doing the welcome basket shopping ourselves, and fixing things before guests even noticed they were broken.
That handful has grown into a proper collection of properties across Seaton, Beer, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Exmouth and Exeter — but the way we work hasn't changed. We're still the same small team, still based here, still picking up the phone.
A few things we hold onto, no matter how much we grow.
Every property we manage is within a short drive of where we live. We're not managing a spreadsheet of postcodes — we're managing homes in towns we know, walk our dogs in, and shop in every week.
We work with the same local cleaners, tradespeople and suppliers again and again, because trust matters more than the cheapest quote. That consistency is what keeps our cottages feeling cared for.
We remember returning guests. We know which cottage the dog-loving family always asks for, and which one has the best sunset view for anniversaries. That's not something an algorithm can do.
